Hatsun Agro Launches Programme to Support 6,000 Dairy Farmers in India
The programme will provide farmers with access to bank financing, government subsidies, modern technologies and dairy farm management practices. The funds are intended to support the purchase of high-quality breeding cattle, the construction and modernization of animal housing, farm mechanization, improved nutrition and veterinary care.
Go-Dhan participants will be able to access support measures including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana programme. It provides subsidies for agricultural projects and is expected to reduce the cost of capital for farmers establishing or expanding dairy operations.
Hatsun Agro intends to implement the initiative in phases over three years. According to company chairman R. G. Chandramogan, the project is aimed at increasing rural incomes, promoting scientifically based livestock management practices and developing a sustainable dairy value chain in Odisha.
The company plans to expand milk procurement and processing within the state. The resulting products will be intended for both the local market and distribution to neighbouring regions, including West Bengal and northern Andhra Pradesh.
The Odisha Government’s Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and the state-owned corporation APICOL are also involved in implementing the project. Government agencies will help connect farmers with existing support programmes, while the State Bank of India will provide access to institutional financing.
Hatsun Agro Product procures milk directly from more than 500,000 farmers in India. The company produces milk, fermented dairy products, ice cream, whey-based beverages, as well as livestock feed and animal care products. Its main brands include Arokya, Arun Icecreams, Hatsun Dairy Products, ibaco and Santosa.
