Hamilton Dairy Company Guilty of False Representations on Ghee Products
A Hamilton-based dairy company, Milkio Food Ltd, has been found guilty of making false and/or misleading claims regarding the origin of dairy ingredients in some of its ghee products.
The charges, filed under the Fair Trading Act, pertain to Milkio's improper use of the FernMark fern logo and license number (FernMark Logo). The company was either not authorized to use the logo on its Buffalo ghee products or used it on cow ghee products based on false information provided to FernMark.
The Commerce Commission has confirmed that Milkio has pleaded guilty to 15 charges related to these violations. Sentencing is scheduled to take place later this month.
