The inspection took place at Bahuchar Dairy Products in Deesa, in Banaskantha district. The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) said the unit was being used by its owner, Sagar Chokhawala, to manufacture and pack ghee. The seized loose product was retained for examination, while a sample was sent for testing.

Officials found expired Kaviraj-brand ghee in two package sizes. The stock comprised 150 bottles of 100ml each and 75 bottles of 200ml each, amounting to 30 litres. The products were valued at about ₹19,500 and were destroyed during the inspection.

The department also reported a licensing issue at the premises. The business held a licence from the central authority for a site at Plot 23 on GIDC Road in Deesa, but officials alleged that the firm was manufacturing and conducting commercial activity without the licence required for those operations.

The action followed earlier inspections involving products linked to the same business. On 7 October 2025, officials took 734kg of Prabhushree Cow Ghee, valued at ₹4.15 lakh, and submitted a sample for testing. The sample was later classified as substandard. On 15 April, a separate inspection resulted in the seizure of 449kg of Kaviraj Cow Ghee worth ₹2.51 lakh; its sample was also found to be substandard.

On 5 August 2026, officials collected samples of Kaviraj Cow Ghee and Prabhushree Cow Ghee for laboratory analysis. The FDCA said those earlier results should be kept separate from the pending assessment of the ghee seized in the latest inspection.

According to the department, further legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will depend on the latest laboratory reports. The testing is intended to establish whether the seized product meets the applicable quality and safety requirements.
