The Bolivian government, through Vice Minister of Industrialisation Policies Luis Siles, has announced increased monitoring in open markets following deviations in the milk price regulated at Bs 6.80 for consumers. Siles declared, "We will reinforce supervision with the intendancies and the Food Security Committee to prevent costs from surpassing this amount."

The announcement comes amid reports of consumer prices allegedly reaching Bs 9 recently due to the rising prices of other products. Despite this, the authority maintains that supermarket prices have adhered to the regulated range between Bs 6.80 and Bs 7. Nevertheless, irregularities are primarily noted in "open markets," like neighborhood stores and supply centers, with unauthorized fluctuations.

As part of the strategy to stabilize the sector, policies subsidizing corn, an essential feed for cattle, are underway to strengthen the dairy supply chain. Moreover, since the beginning of the month, a joint ministerial resolution has been in place to control the prices of primary and fluid milk, resulting from discussions among producers, industries, and the government. This measure targets the prevention of inflationary pressures and ensures fairness within the dairy sector.

The state’s efforts aim to rectify market distortions, prioritize affordable access, and reinforce national industry strength, acknowledging milk's crucial role in household consumption.
