Good Guise expands paneer supply to Costco and Pizza Hut

Good Guise was established by the Guise family in Mossburn, Southland, after the global dairy downturn of 2014 prompted them to diversify their farm business. The family developed its paneer recipe at home to serve a New Zealand market where fresh Indian paneer was difficult to obtain. Bombay Palace in Invercargill became the operation’s first customer.

Paneer is a pressed cheese curd made by heat and acid coagulation. It does not melt during cooking and is used widely in vegetarian South Asian dishes. Before Good Guise expanded, New Zealand’s supply largely consisted of imported frozen paneer. The company’s product is made from whole, fresh milk and vinegar without preservatives or other additives.

Good Guise uses liquid milk rather than reconstituted powders or standardised fat streams. The company says this gives the curd a soft and pliable texture that retains moisture during high-temperature cooking. Its recent production has included paneer cubes for Pizza Hut, while Costco receives supplies for its Auckland operations.

The business has moved from a combined farm-and-processing model to a dedicated processing company. The family sold its main dairy farm earlier in 2026 and now works with regional dairy producers to obtain raw milk. It continues to control processing, food-safety procedures and cold-chain distribution.

Isabelle and Jordan Brockman completed Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point training as production increased across wholesale channels. Their responsibilities include regulatory compliance, facility expansion and technical operations.

Good Guise expanded without formal advertising. The business first built demand through recommendations among food-service operators, then reached national procurement teams looking for fresh, domestically produced ethnic dairy products. The company’s paneer is used as a protein option in cooking because of its neutral flavour and resistance to melting.
