Galliker Dairy Recalls Dairy Queen Mix Due to Metal Contamination

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that Galliker Dairy Co., based in Pennsylvania, voluntarily recalled 74 cases of Dairy Queen Chocolate Reduced Fat Ice Cream Mix. This action was taken after metal shavings were detected in the product. The affected ice cream mix, packaged in five-gallon bags, was distributed to Dairy Queen franchise locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The recall was initiated on May 21, and by May 28, the FDA classified it as a Class II recall. According to federal guidelines, a Class II recall indicates that the use of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a remote probability of severe health issues.

The specific batch under recall is identified by the lot code “Jun1226,” which corresponds to the expiration date of the mix. Due to swift action by distributor safety teams, the affected cases have been retrieved and isolated, ensuring that the product is no longer in circulation at restaurant locations.

Although the recall process is still open pending final regulatory closure, the FDA has not issued warnings to consumers to avoid Dairy Queen outlets. The franchises that received the affected mix have removed it in accordance with food safety protocols, effectively managing potential health risks to patrons.
