FrieslandCampina makes record investment: new Frisian Flag Indonesia Dairy plant opened

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the Director General of Agro Industry Republic of Indonesia, Putu Juli Ardika, inaugurated the new dairy factory of FrieslandCampina subsidiary Frisian Flag Indonesia (FFI) in Cikarang, West Java. The construction involved an investment of 257 million euros.

With this, FrieslandCampina is making a record investment in its international production network. The new production facility aims to meet the growing domestic demand for dairy products.

In his speech the Director General expressed his appreciation for FrieslandCampina's. He noted that this investment supports Indonesia’s economic growth, promotes welfare, and strengthens self-sufficiency of Indonesia. The Director General also expressed hope that this investment would boost foreign investor confidence in Indonesia.

CEO Jan Derck van Karnebeek, stated: “This new production facility, our largest investment in our international production network ever, will serve as a central hub for Southeast Asia. It is a testament to our dedication to providing affordable, high-quality, and nutritious dairy products for current and future generations in Indonesia and the region, produced in harmony with people and the planet. With this, Frisian Flag Indonesia supports the government's efforts to improve prosperity in the region.”

Berend van Wel, President Director of Frisian Flag Indonesia, said, “The inauguration of the dairy plant in Cikarang marks a pivotal moment for FrieslandCampina and FFI, allowing us to play a more prominent role in further developing a sustainable Indonesian dairy sector. Besides producing nutritious dairy products for Indonesian households, we are at the same time minimising our impact on the environment.”

Sustainable dairy plant spanning 35 soccer fields

The entire plant spans 25.4 hectares, equivalent to 35 soccer fields, and is set to process 400,000 kilogrammes of fresh milk daily. It will produce 700 million kilogrammes of dairy products annually, with the potential to grow up to 1 billion kilograms. Built in line with the targets of FrieslandCampina's Climate Plan, the plant will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Green innovations such as biomass boilers, wastewater recycling, and a roof with solar panels will together achieve a 45 percent reduction in CO2 emissions, a 22 percent saving on electricity, and a 25 percent reduction in water consumption. Additionally, the greening initiatives include the use of more than 55,000 sustainable pallets.
