Food Sovereignty: Milk Production Becomes a Priority for the Mexican Government

Strengthening National Milk Production
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing Mexico's food sovereignty, the Secretaria de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural has set forth an ambitious goal to boost national milk production. By 2030, the objective is to escalate production to 15 billion liters, marking a 15% increase from current levels.
During the Tenth International Dairy Forum in Chihuahua, Agriculture Secretary Julio Berdegué Sacristán emphasized the sector's significance in the sovereign strategy. The initiative aligns with the new "Cosechando Soberanía" program, focusing on critical staples like corn, beans, and rice.
Health Challenges and Strategic Actions
Addressing tuberculosis and brucellosis among dairy cattle forms a crucial component of the sector's development plan. The Integral Management Plan for Infected Dairy Herds aims to curtail these diseases via preventive measures and sustainable replacements in livestock populations.
Gremial efforts aimed at elevating the dairy sector's competitiveness were highlighted, recognizing the need for improvement in sanitary standards to enable more robust integration into emerging markets.
