Fonterra Projects Strong Earnings Despite Global Supply Chain Disruptions

Fonterra, the New Zealand-based dairy cooperative, has announced an upward revision of its earnings outlook despite ongoing global supply chain disruptions. These disruptions are primarily linked to the conflict in the Middle East, which has caused shipping delays for cargoes destined for Gulf markets following military strikes on Tehran earlier this year. This situation has contributed to inflationary pressures and logistical challenges across international trade routes.

According to Fonterra's chief executive, Richard Allen, milk collections are expected to remain robust as the company heads into the next season. This optimism is supported by healthy demand across global markets. In line with this positive outlook, Fonterra has unveiled an opening milk price forecast for the 2026-2027 season with a midpoint of NZ$9.75 per kgMS and a projected range between NZ$8.00 and NZ$11.00.

Financially, Fonterra reported year-on-year growth in operating profits, with total operating earnings reaching NZ$1.8 billion during the fiscal third quarter. Additionally, underlying earnings per share increased to NZ$0.57 from NZ$0.53 a year earlier. This performance was largely driven by sustained protein demand in the United States and Europe, alongside stronger margins and increased sales volumes in Fonterra’s foodservice division.

The cooperative's ability to navigate these global challenges while maintaining strong financial performance underscores its resilience and strategic positioning in the global dairy market. As Fonterra continues to address logistical challenges, its outlook remains positive, supported by strong market demand and strategic financial management.
