The Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, hosted annually by CIWF, celebrate companies that promote sustainable food supply chains while ensuring the wellbeing of animals. This year’s event, held in Paris, honored 49 winners from around the globe. Fonterra’s recognition highlights its commitment to providing dairy cows with access to pasture, eliminating tethering, and monitoring welfare through key animal-based indicators.

Charlotte Rutherford, Fonterra’s Director of Sustainability, expressed pride in the award, stating, “Dairy cows are at the heart of our co-op, and we are proud to help provide an environment they thrive in. Our On-Farm Excellence team works closely with farmers to demonstrate our high standards to customers and consumers.”

Dr. Tracey Jones, CIWF's Global Director of Food Business, praised Fonterra for its leadership, noting, “Fonterra is leading the dairy sector on a global scale by ensuring pasture access, achieving zero tethering, and actively monitoring welfare. Their dedication to improving cow welfare shines through in their continued leadership across their supply chain.”

Fonterra's achievement underscores the co-op's focus on animal welfare as a central pillar of its sustainability efforts, reinforcing its role as a leader in the global dairy industry.
