Fonterra-Backed Startup Vivici Secures €32.5 Million in Funding

Vivici, a Dutch ingredients startup backed by the dairy giant Fonterra and DSM, proudly announced the acquisition of €32.5 million ($58.89 million) to advance its groundbreaking precision fermentation technology into full commercial operation.

This latest round of funding, spearheaded by APG on behalf of ABP, one of the largest pension funds globally, along with Invest-NL, and the ongoing support from existing investors DSM-Firmenich and Fonterra, marks a significant milestone for the startup. With plans to expand its market reach internationally, Vivici is set to launch a second dairy protein ingredient and solidify its manufacturing capabilities for the long term.

The first product under Vivici's Vivitein protein platform, Vivitein BLG, has already been introduced. The company's groundbreaking protein targets consumers within the active nutrition sector, which saw a valuation of $28.4 billion in 2023 with an anticipated growth trajectory. Additionally, the startup is gearing up to release its second ingredient, lactoferrin (Vivitein LF), later this year.

As the company breaks new ground, promising a high standard of consumer protein products, Vivici remains poised at the forefront of employing precision fermentation to create animal-free dairy protein alternatives. The support and investment from prominent global players indicate strong confidence in Vivici's potential to redefine the dairy protein industry landscape.
