Finland's Valio To Invest €30m In Joensuu Production Plant
Valio, the renowned Finnish food company, has announced its intention to bolster its Joensuu production plant with a €30 million investment to develop a new cheese maturation warehouse. The construct is projected to finalize by the end of 2027, fostering relocation of cheese-slicing, grating, and processed cheese production from Vantaa to Joensuu.

The initiative will not only modernize the old maturation warehouse but also integrate advanced automation features, paving the way for streamlined operations within the facility. The consolidation aligns with Valio’s strategy to house the entire cheese production process under one roof, from milk pasteurization to cheese ripening and packaging. Petri Liukka, director of the Joensuu facility, assures the project will introduce approximately one hundred new jobs over the upcoming years, optimizing the production lines.

Presently, the plant craftily manages an annual output of 25 million kilograms of varied cheese products, notably Valio Polar and Valio Salaneuvos, drawn from milk supplies of 800 dairy farms predominantly located in North Karelia. The plant's operations hinge significantly on exports, with about 20% of its produce reaching foreign markets, further boosting Finland's dairy footprint.
