Fernando Lugea Takes Helm of SPLF with Clear Focus: Supporting the Producers

Fernando Lugea has recently assumed the presidency of the Sociedad de Productores de Leche de Florida (SPLF), making it clear that his priority is to "benefit the producer in every possible way." With a history linked to the dairy sector since 1927, Lugea, along with his family, manages a pastoral dairy farm where they milk 190 cows across 158 hectares.

Lugea, the only brother living on the rural estate, combines management of daily dairy operations with his new role. The family's division of labor in administration, field operations, and maintenance highlights the collective nature of their endeavor.

The year 2025 has seen favorable conditions with a mild winter and good spring, improving forage growth and benefiting producers amid stable international prices. However, Lugea notes that any drop in pricing could significantly affect those with tighter margins.

Continuity is crucial for SPLF, given Lugea’s past roles as deputy and vice president, alongside his family's recognized contribution to the association. He stresses collective decision-making, listening to dairy producers, and addressing their needs.

Among immediate goals, Lugea aims to utilize the Maria Dolores property to provide cost-effective resources, aiming to ensure benefits are directly felt by producers, while collaborating with experts on planning and cost management.
