Feed Imports through St. Petersburg Tripled

The Northwestern Interregional Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor reported that from January 1 to September 21, inspectors checked 2,230 tons of feed and feed additives that arrived via the checkpoints of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. The statistics excluded the Greater Port of St. Petersburg.

The volume of supplies for this period was three times higher than the previous year. The agency noted that the figures refer to products that were inspected and approved by its personnel. These statistics pertain to the first nine months of 2026.

Nearly all of the recorded volume was sourced from Finland. From this country, 1,860 tons of feed for productive agricultural animals and an additional 371 tons for non-productive domestic animals were brought in, totaling 2,231 tons of Finnish imports.

Besides Finland, Brazil, Vietnam, and China were also listed among the supplier countries. The combined volume of feeds and feed additives from these three nations amounted to about 2 tons, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.

Simultaneously, Russian feed manufacturers increased their overseas shipments. From January to July 2026, they exported 63,000 tons of pet food for dogs and cats, valued at $152 million.

Compared to January—July 2025, exports rose by 30% in volume and 35% in monetary terms, as previously reported by the publication 'Veterinary and Life'.
