Fonterra’s milk collections surged in September, driven by favorable weather and strong pasture growth, marking a 5.2% year-over-year increase in milk solids production. The cooperative's New Zealand collections reached 174.2 million kg of milk solids (MS) in September, up 4.9% from the same month last year.

Season-to-date collections are now 307.2 million kg MS, a 6.1% increase from the previous season, according to Fonterra’s latest Global Dairy Update.

North Island collections rose by 4.8% to 104.6 million kg MS in September, supported by sustained favorable weather and robust pasture growth, with season-to-date figures 6.7% higher than last year at 205.4 million kg MS. South Island collections also climbed, reaching 69.6 million kg MS, a 5% increase from last September. Although favorable weather conditions have supported growth in most of the South Island, production in the lower region was partially constrained by less favorable conditions.

In Australia, milk production saw a year-over-year increase of 1.4% in September, bolstered by improved rainfall in northern and eastern Victoria, which supported pasture growth. Fonterra's Australian collections rose 4.7% to 10.2 million kg MS, with season-to-date collections up 2.6% at 22.7 million kg MS.

New Zealand dairy exports in September were up 4.4% year-over-year, equivalent to an increase of 7,951 tonnes. This growth was led by rising exports of proteins, cheese, and infant formula to China, fluid milk products to the Philippines, and butter to Saudi Arabia. For the 12 months to September, exports climbed 2.8%, driven by higher shipments of whole milk powder (WMP) and fluid milk to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
