In Indonesia, FrieslandCampina's subsidiary, Frisian Flag Indonesia, has inaugurated a new processing plant in Cikarang, West Java. This €257 million facility, covering over 25 hectares, is designed to meet the rising domestic demand for dairy products. The plant is equipped to process approximately 400,000 kg of milk daily, translating to an annual production of 700 million kg of milk and dairy products. Notably, the plant incorporates environmentally friendly features such as biomass boilers, wastewater recycling, and solar panels.

In India, Sid’s Farm has secured US$10 million in investment to establish new processing plants in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Dr. Kishore Indukur, the company's founder, emphasized the potential to serve over 100,000 families daily in these key markets. This expansion is aimed at addressing the increasing demand for dairy products in these urban centers.

Yili Group Expands into US Market

China’s Yili Group, the largest and fastest-growing dairy company in Asia, is making strides in the US market. Recently, Yili opened its first store in Los Angeles, California, following FDA approval for several of its products, including Ambpomial and Youngfun liquid products. Yili had previously introduced Kabrita goat milk infant formula and Westgold butter to the US market. The company’s US strategy spans all four of its core business areas: liquid milk, milk powder, ice cream, and butter.

Yili's Australian Endeavors

During the 7th China-Australia Business Leaders Roundtable held in mid-June in Australia, Liu Chunxi, Yili Group's executive president, discussed deepening collaboration with Australian partners in areas such as raw material procurement, dairy farming, R&D, and nutrition products. This collaboration comes at a time when Australia's dairy industry faces challenges, including a significant contraction in domestic milk production. Australia’s production has decreased to about 3 billion liters below its peak of 11.2 billion liters in the early 2000s. Despite these challenges, demand for dairy products remains strong, with imports of butter and cheese nearly tripling over the past 22 years.

Innovation in Dairy Products

In another development, Yili has partnered with Xampla to incorporate microscopic natural polymer capsules into its products for enhanced fortification. Xampla's technology aims to protect vitamins and nutrients throughout the product lifecycle, from production to digestion, without altering taste or texture. This innovation addresses degradation risks from factors such as UV light, pH, and heat shock, enhancing the nutritional value of Yili's product offerings.

These developments underscore the dynamic growth and expansion of the dairy industry in Asia, with major players actively enhancing their production capabilities, exploring new markets, and leveraging technological advancements to meet evolving consumer demands.
