EU Relaxes Rules on State Aid for Farmers

The European Union has approved new regulations allowing farmers to receive greater amounts of state aid without triggering regulatory scrutiny, the European Commission announced on Tuesday.
The updated rules revise existing provisions that exempt small-scale agricultural support from state aid oversight, as such subsidies are considered to have minimal impact on competition and intra-EU trade, the Commission said in a statement.
Under the changes, national aid caps exempt from EU control will rise to 2% of agricultural output, up from 1.5%, reflecting the sector's increased production value over recent years. Additionally, the maximum aid a single company can receive without notifying the EU has been doubled to €50,000 within a three-year period.
The revised framework will remain in force through the end of 2032, providing extended certainty for farmers and member states.
