Emmi, a prominent Swiss dairy company, and Coop, a major retail group, have taken a significant stride toward sustainability by introducing recyclable PET bottles for selected milk and cream products. This initiative extends to various Emmi branded items, including Emmi Energy Milk. The switch to environmentally sound PET bottles aligns with both companies' commitment to establishing a circular economy and achieving sustainability goals.

The recyclable PET bottles represent a pioneering packaging innovation in Switzerland, providing a closed-cycle recycling and reprocessing solution for plastic food packaging. Currently, PET bottles are the only type of plastic food packaging in Switzerland that can be recycled and reprocessed in this manner.
Products now available in the recyclable PET bottles include Coop milk and cream, as well as Emmi brands such as Emmi Energy Milk High Protein and Comella Choco Drink. The new white PET bottle, known for its opacity, ensures optimal product protection and taste consistency. The bottles are expected to be used in the production of new PET bottles for milk and dairy products in the future, contributing to the circularity of packaging materials.
The introduction of PET bottles for selected products is a strategic move toward Emmi's sustainability goals. The company aims to have 100% recyclable packaging and a minimum of 30% recycled materials in its packaging by 2027 at the latest. This switch to PET bottles is anticipated to lead to a significant reduction in transportation and material usage compared to previous polyethylene counterparts.
Emmi's commitment to recyclable packaging is in line with its broader sustainability model, aiming to minimize waste and conserve resources. With this step, Emmi is making further progress in its journey toward creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly dairy industry.
