DSM-Firmenich Strengthens Its Indonesia Presence with New Office and Expanded Facility
DSM-Firmenich has recently opened a new office in Jakarta and expanded its manufacturing operations in Karawang, Indonesia, in a strategic move to enhance its food and beverage innovation and production capabilities. These initiatives are designed to foster closer collaboration with customers, increase manufacturing capacity, and expedite the development of solutions tailored to local consumer demands in Indonesia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
The new Jakarta office consolidates teams from three key business units: Taste, Texture & Health, Perfumery & Beauty, and Health, Nutrition & Care. This site has been certified by the Green Building Council of Indonesia and includes spaces dedicated to customer co-creation and innovation. The Taste, Texture & Health unit now boasts a baked goods application laboratory and a pilot plant for ultra-high temperature (UHT) dairy applications, as well as expertise in local sweet and savory goods and flavor creation.
The company aims to shorten the development cycle, from consumer insights to prototyping and commercialization. Alongside this, the Perfumery & Beauty business unit has been expanded, reflecting DSM-Firmenich's commitment to adapting to rapidly changing consumer needs.
In Karawang, the facility's expansion has introduced new drying technology for reaction and top-note products, doubling its capacity to handle high-fat and high-protein products and introducing new culinary blending capabilities. The facility is now powered entirely by green electricity, with expectations to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 300 metric tonnes annually and decrease energy consumption by roughly 16% through heat recovery technology.
The expansions were celebrated with an inauguration attended by DSM-Firmenich's CEO Dimitri de Vreeze and regional leadership teams. Timothy Elisafan, VP of Taste, Asia Pacific, emphasized Indonesia's significance to DSM-Firmenich's growth strategy, citing the new facilities' role in bolstering customer collaboration and swiftly meeting evolving market demands.
