Drought-stricken SA Farmers Plead for Government Assistance
Amid severe drought conditions, South Australian (SA) farmers took their plea for assistance directly to the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide. Joined by opposition members, these farmers are urging the government for enhanced drought support.

The demonstration coincided with an emergency management council meeting, highlighting the critical water shortages affecting the region. Andrew Kitto, a Mid North farmer, stressed the urgency, noting that farmers are grappling with depleted water resources. "It is really serious because water is running out, in the last three weeks bores have run dry; the dams are dry, " he explained.

Premier Peter Malinauskas acknowledged the severity of the drought, asserting the government's commitment toward responsive action. An $18 million support package was previously initiated, and Malinauskas indicated similar measures could be expedited if needed.

The opposition, led by water spokesperson Nicola Centofanti, has called on the government to leverage unused Murray-Darling Basin water allocations, proposing their redirection into regional reservoirs as a potential relief solution.

The gathering signified a collective call for immediate attention and aid, underscoring the increasing challenges posed by persistent drought conditions.
