DM Mexicana announces $100m Texas investment for goat-milk supplements

DM Mexicana, headquartered in Monterrey, has announced a $100m investment to establish a production line for goat-milk-based nutritional supplements in Texas. Gerardo Barrera Cantú, the company’s director, presented the project alongside James Taylor, head of the Texas State Office in Mexico, during a visit to DM Mexicana’s facilities in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León.

The company said the product would be manufactured in the United States rather than exported from Mexico. DM Mexicana cited greater legal certainty and administrative efficiency as reasons for the decision. Its management said local permitting procedures and regulatory obligations in Mexico had created recurring operational difficulties, while Texas promotes business facilitation and investment attraction.

The planned facility is intended to serve the North American market, where goat milk has a small but emerging presence. DM Mexicana said the milk’s fat and protein composition makes it naturally similar to human breast milk. The resulting ingredient is intended for specialised formulas for people with allergies or intolerance to cow’s-milk protein.

Health programmes administered by the Texas Department of State Health Services have shown interest in the supplements and are assessing their possible use for children with digestive problems. The company said the new line would serve both commercial and institutional customers.

DM Mexicana has operated the Dairy Manufacturing dairy dehydrator in Prosper, Texas, since 1989. The project would mark the first time the facility incorporates goat milk into its industrial product range. The company is therefore moving processing capacity for the ingredient into the market where it intends to sell it, rather than maintaining an export model from Mexico.

The investment was presented as part of DM Mexicana’s expansion in specialised functional ingredients in North America. The company also said that locating production in Texas would reduce border-related logistical risks and provide greater certainty for its operations.
