Darigold and Actus Nutrition Form Partnership for Specialty Dairy Proteins
Darigold, Inc., a leading dairy cooperative in the United States, has partnered with Actus Nutrition, a specialty ingredient manufacturer, to expand their reach in the specialty dairy protein market. This partnership involves two significant components: the sale and operation of Darigold's milk protein plant in Jerome, Idaho, and a long-term agreement for Darigold to supply high-value whey products to Actus from its Sunnyside, Washington facility.
Actus Nutrition will purchase Darigold's Jerome milk protein plant and continue to receive milk from Darigold's farmer-owners. The current employees at the Jerome facility will be offered employment under Actus's management. Meanwhile, in Sunnyside, Darigold will maintain ownership and operation of its facility, focusing on producing whey products for Actus.
The collaboration aims to leverage Darigold's production capabilities and Actus's expertise in specialty proteins, thereby creating a more efficient supply chain. This move is expected to connect Darigold's members' milk to expanding premium specialty ingredient markets and ensure long-term stability for their milk supply.
Amy Humphreys, President and CEO of Darigold, highlighted that the partnership allows Darigold to concentrate on its core business while gaining access to the growing specialty protein market. Similarly, David Lenzmeier, CEO of Actus Nutrition, emphasized the partnership's role in meeting the increasing global demand for high-quality dairy proteins.
The transition of the Jerome facility to Actus is anticipated to be finalized by mid-June. Financial specifics of the agreement between the two companies have not been disclosed.
