Danone Mexico has pledged to achieve a positive water footprint by 2030 as part of its 'The Danone Impact Route' sustainability strategy. The company underscores its commitment to sustainable water management and conservation, launching various initiatives aimed at reducing its water footprint and producing positive impacts in its communities.
Over the past five years, Danone has cut its water use by 11% due to improvements in key areas like water efficiency, conservation, and agriculture. Highlighted projects include the Aguascalientes project, which optimizes irrigation systems for conservation, involving over 300 local farmers. This initiative has enhanced irrigation across 1,290 hectares, reducing water usage by 35% since 2018.
Moreover, the 'Segunda Vida al Agua' project, which encourages water reuse in production and public spaces, has reused over 300,000 m³ of water since 2018.
Another noteworthy effort is the Charco Bendito project in Guadalajara, designed to tackle regional water challenges and involves reforesting 255 hectares by 2028. In the area of regenerative agriculture, Danone collaborates with small-scale farmers to boost agricultural yields and cut water use, especially for strawberry cultivation.
Additionally, the 'Escuelas de Lluvia' initiative installs rainwater harvesting systems in schools, benefiting over 250 children, with plans to expand further.
Danone continues to support sustainability and resource preservation, emphasizing collaborative efforts among businesses, governments, and society to secure water resources for current and future generations.
