The French food and drink giant, Danone, has announced a commendable start to 2025, manifesting a solid performance in the first quarter. The company reported sales exceeding €6.8 billion, marking a 4.3% increase on a like-for-like basis. This growth is attributed to a 1.9% rise in volume/mix and a 2.4% uptick in pricing.

Regions such as China, North Asia, and Oceania significantly contributed to this success, showcasing a remarkable 9.9% rise in like-for-like sales. Notably, this was powered by a 10.4% increase in volume/mix, although the pricing reflected a slight decline at -0.5%.

Danone’s flagship products, including infant milk formula, continued to gain traction, particularly with the medical nutrition segment maintaining robust demand.

Within Europe, the company experienced a 2.0% rise in like-for-like sales, primarily influenced by a 1.9% growth in volume/mix, while prices remained stable. The company witnesses a burgeoning growth trajectory in this region, marked by positive volume/mix for a steady sixth quarter.

In North America, Danone's performance remained strong, citing a 3.7% increase in like-for-like sales, supported by a 2.8% price hike and a 0.9% rise in volume/mix. The surge was largely driven by the company's high protein product segment and the medical nutrition portfolio.

The Latin America market observed a 9% increase, despite a 2.1% drop in volume/mix, counterbalanced by an 11.1% price increase. Other global markets too showed a 3.3% sales rise, primarily driven by price increases, despite a dip in volume/mix.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO of Danone, remarked on the robust 4.3% sales growth, crediting the performance to the company's strategic execution and diversified health-focused portfolio. He expressed optimism for continued growth, aligning with Danone's mid-term targets, anticipating recurring operating income to outpace sales growth.

The outlook for 2025 remains positive, with expected like-for-like sales growth between 3% and 5%, reinforcing Danone’s commitment to value creation amidst a volatile market environment.
