Dairygold Maintains Milk Price and Delays Shareholding Deductions for 2026

Dairygold has confirmed its decision to maintain the milk price for supplies in April at 37c/L, based on standard constituents of 3.3% protein and 3.6% butterfat. This price includes sustainability and quality payments as well as VAT. The average farm gate milk price for April was reported as 41.8c/L, taking into account the average milk solids achieved by Dairygold suppliers.

Pat Clancy, the chairperson of Dairygold, commented on the current state of the dairy markets, noting that global milk supply growth is exerting pressure on overall market returns. He mentioned, "Global milk supply growth continues to weigh on overall market returns. However, we have seen some encouraging signs in recent weeks, as protein markets continue to strengthen, although this is being offset by weaker returns from butter and cheese." The board of Dairygold will continue to monitor market conditions closely and review the milk price on a monthly basis.

In addition to the price announcement, Dairygold has decided to defer shareholding deductions for the remainder of 2026 for members who have not yet met their minimum shareholding requirements. This decision was made to address "the ongoing cost challenges at farm level," Dairygold stated. Clancy added, "We are conscious of the current pressures facing members, and the board has taken this decision to provide practical support by deferring 'sharing up'. We will assess the position again later in the year."

In related news, Tirlán, another dairy processor, has also made recent milk price announcements. It will pay a total of 37.08c/L for April, including VAT, aligning with its three-month milk price commitment. Tirlán's price is composed of a base price of 36.58c/L and a sustainability action payment of 0.5c/L, both including VAT. These payments will be adjusted based on the actual constituents of milk delivered by suppliers.
