The dairy industry forms a coalition aimed at advancing sustainability efforts with farmers at the forefront.
In an ‘industry first’, the UK dairy sector has announced a coalition of farmers, processors, retailers, and wholesalers to drive sustainable dairy production. The Dairy Roadmap, previously the Milk Roadmap, has been setting ambitious sustainability targets for 18 years, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy and water efficiency.
NFU Dairy Board Chair Paul Tompkins emphasized the challenges faced by farmers, stating, "The costs and complexities of compliance are significant, and dairy farmers cannot meet them alone." The roadmap introduces a new governance structure with farmers at the center and plans a Sustainable Dairy Pathways report, expected in 2026, to promote shared accountability and cohesion.
This marks a refreshed, collaborative approach to continuous improvement in the face of evolving customer and regulatory expectations.
