Cyberattack Disrupts Logistics of Russian Dairy Producer Ufagormolzavod

A recent cyberattack has targeted the IT systems of Ufagormolzavod, a dairy producer located in Ufa, the capital of Russia's Bashkortostan region. As a result, logistics and accounting processes have been disrupted, forcing the company to manually manage shipments and documentation. According to Ildar Faizullin, the company's chief executive, production has not been interrupted, although the processing of documents and shipments has slowed down. Faizullin stated, "The entire workforce has been mobilized to keep operations running."

Founded in 2015, Ufagormolzavod produces a range of dairy products including kefir, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter, and yogurt under the brands Molochny Fermer and Molochnaya Krepost. The company has not disclosed information regarding the perpetrators of the attack, the potential compromise of data, or the expected timeline for restoring its IT systems.

This incident is part of a broader trend of cyber disruptions affecting Russia's dairy sector. Earlier in the week, another state-run producer in Bashkortostan, Molochnaya Kukhnya, experienced a cyberattack on its website. Attackers posted false claims of power outages and product contamination. It remains unclear if these two incidents are related.

Cyberattacks have previously targeted the dairy industry in Russia, including a notable event in June of the prior year, which affected the country's electronic veterinary certification system. This disruption forced dairy producers and suppliers to revert to paper documentation, causing significant logistical issues. In December, the Semyonishna dairy processing plant in southern Siberia suffered from a ransomware attack that encrypted its systems with LockBit ransomware. Additionally, in September 2024, ransomware operators targeted Kabosh, one of Russia's largest cheese producers, halting operations for nearly a month.
