Competition Appellate Tribunal Dismisses Dairy Farmers' Appeal in Karachi
The Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) has resumed hearings after an eight-month hiatus, dismissing an appeal filed by the Dairy Farmer Association Karachi (DFAK).

The tribunal ruled that the appeal was not valid, as there was no adverse order against the appellant.

During proceedings, the legal counsel from the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) clarified that DFAK, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, had no penalty directly imposed on it but rather on its representative.

The tribunal accepted this legal stance, leading to the withdrawal of the appeal by the appellant's counsel. In December 2024, the CCP had penalized representatives of three dairy associations in Karachi for collusive practices that violated the Competition Act, 2010, resulting in Rs1 million and Rs500,000 fines for influencing milk prices. These anti-competitive actions, investigated by the CCP after rising milk prices in Karachi, adversely affected consumers in the region.
