Coles Slashes Price of 1kg Cheese Blocks to Support Aussies Amid Rising Cost of Living

Cheese toasties are about to get a lot cheaper as one of Australia's largest supermarkets, Coles, has reduced the price of 1kg cheese blocks. In an effort to help shoppers manage their weekly budgets amidst the rising cost of living, Coles has slashed the price of this popular fridge item from $13.90 to $9.50, a reduction of $4.40.
The 12-week deal, starting from Wednesday, is fully funded by Coles to ensure that dairy farmers are not negatively impacted. The price drop follows a survey conducted by Coles, revealing that more than 40% of its customers prefer buying block cheese over sliced or shredded varieties.
As part of Coles' "Down Down" price reduction campaign, various types of cheese, including colby, tasty cheddar, and Australian light tasty cheddar, will see reduced prices. Coles chief commercial officer, Anna Croft, emphasized the company's commitment to helping customers save on their weekly grocery bills.
"We are absolutely committed to lowering the cost of everyday essentials for our customers and have further invested to put another family staple in our Down Down pricing range to offer greater value for longer," said Mr. Croft. "We know the humble cheese block is a family favorite and very versatile to have on hand, from sliced and diced in family lunches and grated in cheesy bakes to enjoying on its own with some crackers."
Coles sells more than four million kilograms of cheese blocks annually, with one in three Australians indicating their favorite way to enjoy the cheese is on a cheese toastie. The Coles brand cheese is produced in Cobram, Victoria, by Saputo Dairy Australia.
