CME Group Sets New Records in Dairy Futures and Options Trading
CME Group, renowned as the world's leading derivatives marketplace, has reported unprecedented figures in its Dairy futures and options market. On February 27, the open interest (OI) reached a new high of 403,113 contracts. February also saw a record monthly average daily volume (ADV) of 11,234 contracts, surpassing the previous high of 9,514 contracts set in September 2025.
According to John Ricci, CME Group's Managing Director and Global Head of Agricultural Products, the increase in trading activity is attributed to tightening inventories of nonfat dry milk and butter, alongside robust demand for whey protein, prompting clients to use CME Group's offerings to manage their risk effectively. The company is dedicated to providing a variety of precise hedging tools to assist clients in navigating diverse market conditions.
Other notable records in CME Group's Dairy products include the Class IV Milk futures and options, which recorded a monthly ADV of 1,443 contracts. Additionally, Cash-Settled Cheese futures and options achieved a record OI of 90,378 contracts on February 26 and a monthly ADV of 2,985 contracts.
