Circularity Fuels: Revolutionizing Dairy Farm Waste Conversion
Circularity Fuels has announced a groundbreaking development that could revolutionize the renewable fuel industry. Using a compact electric processing unit, the startup has converted biogas from a California Central Valley dairy farm into syngas, a precursor for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This technology operates at one-hundredth the cost of traditional methane reformers like steam methane or autothermal reformers. The process promises to unlock billions in annual revenue for farmers by converting waste into a profitable product necessary for airlines.

The Ouro Reactor, Circularity's proprietary technology, effectively processes raw biogas into fuel components, cutting down traditional reforming costs from millions to just tens of thousands of dollars, making it affordable for direct deployment on large farms. Syngas produced can be converted using Fischer-Tropsch synthesis into jet fuel, meeting the increasing mandates for SAF in the aviation sector.

Stephen Beaton, CEO and Founder of Circularity Fuels, emphasizes the potential of this technology to transform farmers into renewable fuel producers, addressing both economic and environmental challenges. With over 20,000 large livestock operations in the U.S. generating substantial amounts of manure annually yet underutilized, this innovation stands to capture a significant untapped market. Circularity plans to demonstrate complete biogas-to-SAF production at a California farm later this year, targeting commercial deployment by 2026, positioning itself as a potential leader in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors.
