China continues to increase its dairy product imports, marking a positive trend for the fourth month in a row as of February 2025.

In February 2025, China increased its dairy product imports for the fourth consecutive month, indicating a sustained growth trend. Total dairy purchases reached 255,516 tons, marking a year-on-year increase of 16%. In terms of value, the increase was 20%, according to customs data processed by OCLA.
Notably, China imported more whey than whole milk powder, with 58,097 tons of whey, reflecting a 52% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, whole milk powder imports decreased by 9% in volume but rose 13% in value. For the first two months of 2025, there was an 8% increase in volume and a 17% rise in value compared to the same period in 2024.
This trend suggests a shift in China's dairy import preferences, with whey surpassing whole milk powder in purchase volume, reaching 116,897 tons, up 35% in both volume and value compared to the first two months of 2024. Whole milk powder imports totaled 103,959 tons, showing a 6% volume decrease but a 14% increase in dollar terms.
