Cheese Prices to Increase in Mazatlán Due to Rising Dairy Costs

Local producers in Mazatlán have announced that cheese prices will increase between 5 to 10 pesos per kilogram beginning next Monday. This adjustment is primarily due to rising costs in raw milk, electricity, and transportation, which have put pressure on the dairy supply chain.

Distributors noted that the price hike will affect mainly fresh cheeses and panela, which are the most consumed in the region. They emphasized that the increase aims to prevent shortages, as some small producers have reduced deliveries due to profitability issues.

The dairy sector in Sinaloa is experiencing significant cost pressures, with milk prices currently ranging from 9 to 10 pesos per liter. These increases occur amid broader food inflation affecting Mexico's essential goods basket.

Experts suggest that if cost pressures persist, similar price hikes could spread to other northwestern states. Nonetheless, they argue that the measure could help maintain the quality and supply of artisanal and small-scale cheeses, which are crucial to local cuisine.

With this adjustment, Mazatlán joins other Mexican cities in updating prices to sustain the internal dairy market's stability. Consumers are advised to brace for a moderate impact, while industry stakeholders continue to advocate for policies that reduce production costs and ensure fair pricing throughout the supply chain.
