The Share Farmer of the Year competition faces participation challenges.

The early results from the Share Farmer of the Year competition reveal participation issues in the Auckland/Hauraki and Hawke's Bay/Wairarapa regions. These areas did not reach the minimum number of finalists required.
Consequently, participant scores were compared against the national average using data from ten other regions. In contrast, regions like Taranak and Manawatu successfully attracted enough finalists, highlighting a disparity in regional engagement.
Despite these challenges, the NZDIA Trust's introduction of two new awards - the Fonterra & ASB First Farm Award and the ASB Alumni of the Year Award - is a commendable effort.
These awards aim to highlight the industry's top talents, but maintaining interest among young farmers remains crucial to the competition's success.
