CANILEC Launches Platform to Support Breastfeeding Mothers
The Cámara Nacional de Industriales de la Leche (CANILEC) launched a digital platform named "Lactancia Materna Para Todos" at the Cámara de Diputados. This initiative is designed to tackle misinformation and provide technical support to first-time mothers, encouraging exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant's life.
René Fonseca Medina, the general director of CANILEC, explained that the project addresses the informational challenges faced by women during the birth of their first child. The platform was developed after identifying knowledge gaps in practical aspects of breastfeeding, such as proper nursing positions, recommended feeding times, and nipple formation processes.
The lack of prior experience among new mothers underscores the need for reliable channels that can provide immediate answers to practical questions. "Lactancia Materna Para Todos" will house multidisciplinary content created by health professionals and specialists, offering responses to common inquiries and access to qualified guidance for families throughout the breastfeeding stages.
During the presentation, CANILEC emphasized that breast milk is an irreplaceable food for infant development. Fonseca Medina highlighted that infants do not require any other type of food or liquid supplement during the first six months, as breast milk fully satisfies their nutritional and hydration needs.
Beyond nutritional benefits, the initiative underscores the positive impact of breastfeeding on the maturation of the baby's immune system and the strengthening of the emotional bond between mother and child. With this launch, the dairy industry seeks to provide a public access tool that reinforces maternal and child health policies nationwide.
