California Dairy Industry Boosted by CMAB's Strategic Initiatives
The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has introduced a new strategy to boost the state's dairy industry by creating direct, high-value channels between local dairy processors and expanding sectors such as retail and foodservice. This initiative focuses on increasing demand for the 'Real California Milk' seal, thereby helping Californian commodities achieve premium pricing in both domestic and international markets.
A key aspect of this strategy involves improving collaboration between independent farm operators and advanced dairy ingredient manufacturers. The CMAB is supporting shared research and capital investments to accelerate the production of high-margin dairy products, including specialized whey protein isolates, organic fluid lines, and artisan cheeses. This approach is intended to protect primary producers from the volatility of raw milk prices.
Additionally, the CMAB's 2026 support roadmap emphasizes operational sustainability. The board is working with research institutions to provide dairy producers with data-driven tools to enhance herd nutrition, optimize water usage, and reduce carbon emissions on farms. These efforts aim to ensure compliance with environmental regulations while reducing production costs through efficient resource management.
