Brownes Dairy, Australia's oldest, is expanding its traditional and innovative product offerings while maintaining steady operations amidst ownership changes.

Brownes Dairy, established in 1886, is poised to celebrate its 140th anniversary and continues to be a staple in Western Australia's dairy market with its fresh milk, yoghurts, creams, and cheeses. According to Nicole Ohm, Marketing GM at Brownes, the company is also expanding its reach in overseas markets like Singapore and Malaysia, with a strong focus on cheese exports. "We believe cheeses have the greatest export potential," Ohm stated. A significant rise in consumer demand for protein-rich products is anticipated to fuel cheese sales.
Ohm noted, "Today the pendulum has swung back to conventional dairy and it is all about protein." Brownes offers a unique range of adult and children's cheeses, including cheddar varieties aged for 24 months and infused with flavors such as green pepper. The company is also venturing into probiotic-rich yoghurts and ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, like its Hunt and Brew cold brew coffee.
These segments are seen as growth areas, especially among millennials. Despite changes in ownership due to financial dealings of its parent company Zhiran, Brownes Dairy's operational activities remain unaffected, according to Keith Crawford from McGrathNicol. Brownes Dairy's commitment to clean-label, minimally processed products aligns with the growing health and wellness trends, positioning it strategically in the evolving dairy landscape.
