Britannia Installs Aseptic PET Line for Dairy Beverages in India
Britannia Industries has implemented its first aseptic PET packaging line for dairy beverages at its greenfield plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, India. The installation was facilitated by Sidel, which provided a comprehensive packaging solution featuring Aseptic Combi Predis technology. This development is part of Britannia's strategic expansion of its Winkin’ Cow beverage line, initially launched in 2018.
The collaboration between Britannia and Sidel encompassed planning, technical setup, equipment installation, commissioning, and operational ramp-up. Sidel's technology supports the processing of 24,000 bottles per hour, integrating steps such as preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling, and capping. The line includes a dry preform decontamination process using hydrogen peroxide, designed to ensure thorough decontamination while reducing chemical and water usage.
Britannia's chief sales transformation officer, Abhishek Sinha, highlighted the breadth of services provided by Sidel, which included new packaging concept design, packaging validation, label recommendations, custom filling tests, and shelf-life studies. Sidel's system monitors key production parameters to maintain sterility and product quality, reducing the need for extensive operator training and minimising production downtimes.
According to Harbinder Kathuria, Sidel's South Asia sales vice-president, the end-to-end support from Sidel has enabled Britannia to maximise the potential of its dairy beverage offerings. The integration of this technology is expected to reduce water and chemical consumption, addressing both resource use and environmental concerns, while providing Indian consumers with safe, high-quality products featuring enhanced packaging flexibility since 2023.
