Brazil’s Milk Collection Growth Slowed to 1% in the Second Quarter

Brazil’s milk sector began 2026 with stronger growth before collection rates eased in the second quarter. Data from the IBGE Quarterly Milk Survey show that dairy companies acquired 6.79bn litres in the first three months of the year, a 2.7% increase compared with the same period in 2025. The volume collected in the following quarter was 6.61bn litres, representing annual growth of 1%.

Monthly figures show the change in pace across the quarter. In April, raw-milk collection rose 1.9% year on year to 2.16bn litres. The increase was 0.4% in May, when dairies received 2.23bn litres. Collection reached 2.22bn litres in June, an annual increase of 0.7%.

Industrial processing followed a similar path. Processing increased 2.7% in the first quarter and 1.1% in the second. The industry processed 2.16bn litres in April, 2.23bn litres in May and 2.22bn litres in June. Those monthly totals represented annual increases of 2%, 0.5% and 0.9%, respectively.

For the first half of 2026, Brazil’s raw-milk collection totalled 13.4bn litres. That was 1.8% above the 13.16bn litres recorded in the first half of 2025. Industrialised milk reached 13.39bn litres in the same period, an increase of 1.9%.

The six-month totals include the stronger result recorded at the start of the year, while the second-quarter figures show slower growth in both milk acquisition and processing. The survey covers the volume of raw milk purchased by Brazilian dairy companies and the amount processed by industry.
