Brazil’s Dairy Market Is Showing Signs of Stabilisation

Brazil’s dairy market has entered a period of slower price movement after a firmer run in recent weeks. The change is occurring alongside a gradual increase in domestic milk output, according to StoneX, which identified the combination of greater local supply and less support for some dairy products.

The shift is visible across individual categories. UHT milk is still becoming more expensive, but its weekly increase has moderated. Mozzarella has faced greater difficulty maintaining prices as negotiations have become less robust.

Whole milk powder has remained broadly unchanged. Market conditions have offered little room for further gains, with imported product adding competitive pressure and inventories described as comfortable.

Rising milk availability is also affecting the spot market. As domestic production expands, buying pressure for immediately available milk is expected to diminish, while continued stability in processed dairy products would extend the current price adjustment, the report said.

International conditions are mixed. Dairy powder prices retain a more positive bias in overseas markets, while butter and cheese are under pressure abroad. Brazil is also approaching the Mercosur production season, a factor that is making imports from the region more competitive under current conditions.

Imported dairy products could therefore play a larger role in Brazilian market purchases in the coming months. The market’s next price movements will be shaped by the pace of domestic supply growth, the ability of processed products to maintain their recent values and the competitiveness of Mercosur imports, according to the report.
