Bhopal Dairy Union Will Inaugurate ₹16.80 Crore Plant
The Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union will open its new Fermented Product Dairy Plant on October 3 at the union’s premises in Madhya Pradesh. Amit Shah, India’s Union minister for home affairs and co-operation, will inaugurate the facility.
The project has a total cost of ₹16.80 crore. The Government of India has provided ₹6 crore in grant funding, while the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union has invested ₹10.80 crore. The plant has been designed to process 40,000 litres of milk a day.
Planned production capacity
The facility will use modern processing equipment to manufacture fermented and other value-added dairy products. Its planned daily capacity includes 10,000 litres each of milk and curd, 30,000 litres of buttermilk and 1,000 litres of lassi. It will also produce up to 800kg of shrikhand and 1,000kg of mawa per day.
The plant will provide dedicated processing for milk, curd and buttermilk, while adding production capacity for lassi, shrikhand and mawa. The project documents describe the facility as an addition to the union’s existing milk-processing infrastructure and as part of the expansion of cooperative dairy processing in the state.
Cooperative dairy products
Jaidev Biswas, managing director of the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union, called the plant an initiative in modern dairy processing and value addition. He said it would make curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa while incorporating modern technology into the cooperative dairy system.
The facility will add to the range of value-added products sold through the Madhya Pradesh cooperative dairy network under the Sanchi brand. The Bhopal Milk Union will use the additional infrastructure to diversify its product portfolio and increase manufacturing capacity for products supplied to different market segments.
The project combines central-government funding with investment by the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union. Its commissioning will add a dedicated fermented-products unit to the union’s processing operations and support the procurement, processing, production and marketing activities associated with the cooperative dairy system.
