Babcock Dairy Expands Ice Cream Recall Over Labeling Issue
Source: DairyNews.today
Babcock Dairy announced Tuesday an expansion of its voluntary recall for ice cream products that may have been mislabeled, raising concerns for consumers with egg allergies.
The recall now includes Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream, which may have been incorrectly labeled as Chocolate Peanut Butter. The affected half-gallon containers were produced between September 17 and September 30, marking an expansion from the initial recall that only covered products made on September 17.
Details and Customer Advisory
The issue was first identified on November 4, when a customer reported mislabeled ice cream. A second lot was added to the recall on Monday. Consumers are advised to check the production date printed on the bottom of the container for the codes 09 1724 or 09 3024.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the mislabeling, but the company cautioned that individuals with allergies or severe sensitivity to eggs could experience an allergic reaction if they consume the mislabeled product.
Distribution and Refunds
The mislabeled ice cream was distributed to several retailers, including the Babcock Dairy Store, Metcalfe’s Markets, Ken’s Meats & Deli, and the Capitol Centre Market. Customers who purchased the affected product are encouraged to return it to the point of sale for a full refund.
Babcock Dairy stated it has implemented corrective actions to prevent similar incidents in the future. These measures include:
Enhanced employee training on labeling procedures.
Additional verification checks during packaging.
Improved organization of packaging materials.
The company reiterated its commitment to product quality and consumer safety as it works to address the issue.
