Aurivo Invests €12 Million in Renewable Biomass System

Aurivo Co-operative Society is undertaking a significant €12 million investment in a new wood pellet burner and boiler system at its Dairy Ingredients facility located in Ballaghaderreen. The project is partially funded by the Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant scheme, involving Enterprise Ireland, InterTradeIreland, and Invest Northern Ireland.

The new boiler system is expected to cut carbon emissions by around 7,500 tonnes of CO₂ each year, marking a substantial advancement in Aurivo's sustainability initiatives. By using locally supplied and sustainably certified wood pellets, the facility will reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and provide more stability against the volatility of global energy markets.

The investment is set to enhance the economic value within the all-Island supply chain, supporting local industries and reinforcing Aurivo's commitment to regional sourcing. This move aligns with Ireland's broader low-carbon economy transition goals.

The biomass system will also contribute to local employment in construction, engineering, and the supply chain sectors, demonstrating how climate-focused investments can yield economic benefits for regional communities.

The project has received endorsements from government officials and industry leaders. Alan Dillon T.D, Minister of State for Small Business, Retail and Employment, emphasized the strategic partnership's role in advancing industrial climate action and economic resilience. Donal Tierney, CEO of Aurivo, highlighted the investment's transformative impact on reducing the facility's carbon footprint and increasing operational resilience.

Enterprise Ireland's Tom Cusack and Invest Northern Ireland's Paul Gunn have expressed their support for Aurivo's commitment to green energy practices. This initiative positions Aurivo at the forefront of sustainable dairy processing in Ireland.
