Armenia to Tighten Dairy Safety Standards

Armenia is setting its sights on enhancing safety standards within its dairy production sector, as unveiled during a recent meeting of the Food Safety Inspectorate. Representatives from local dairy processing companies, including those in cheese production, participated to address these crucial changes.

The Deputy Head of the Inspectorate, Hayk Sargsyan, led discussions on the importance of stringent safety compliance in production and the implementation of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system. The agenda also covered expansion prospects for exports.

Sargsyan pledged that the Inspectorate will utilize all available tools to ensure that consumers are supplied with high-quality, safe dairy products. Key measures include strict adherence to product labeling standards and regulations concerning milk fat substitutes as outlined by the Customs Union's technical directives.

Commencing September 15, the Inspectorate plans to monitor compliance with these standards in retail environments, with follow-up evaluations occurring at the production level if infringements are found.

Sargsyan affirmed ongoing support for businesses to aid them in aligning with current safety standards whilst enhancing Armenian cheese's competitiveness on the global stage.

Throughout the meeting, cheese producers highlighted industry challenges and proposed solutions, stressing the value of maintaining a constructive dialogue with governmental bodies.
