Arla Denmark Recognized for Advancements in Renewable Energy Utilization

Arla Denmark has been recognized with the country's Green Power Award 2026, acknowledging the company's significant strides in electrifying energy consumption at its dairies. The award, presented by the interest group Green Power Denmark, highlights Arla's dedicated efforts to transition away from fossil fuels and enhance the sustainability of its supply chain.

Electrification plays a crucial role in Arla's strategy, reducing emissions and decreasing reliance on fossil energy sources. Line Brandt Pedersen, Arla's head of sustainability in the supply chain, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, "We are proud to receive the Green Power Award 2026. It is a recognition that we at Arla, together with our cooperative members, are working purposefully to transform production, reduce the climate footprint and future-proof efficient food production."

In recent years, Arla has heavily invested in electrifying energy-intensive processes within its dairy production facilities. Notably, the dairy in Svenstrup near Aalborg uses electric high-temperature heat pumps for spray drying, with similar initiatives being implemented across several other production plants.

The company's investments in electrification are aligned with broader efforts to reduce supply chain emissions. Electricity now constitutes a growing proportion of Arla's total energy consumption, contributing to increased energy efficiency and reduced vulnerability to fossil energy market fluctuations.

Since the end of 2025, Arla has successfully covered the electricity consumption of all its European dairies with renewable energy. This milestone is significant for Arla, as approximately 93% of its total electricity consumption occurs in Europe. The transition was achieved through long-term renewable energy agreements and market-based certificates among other strategies.
