Arla Adjusts Organic Milk Prices Amid Supply and Demand Imbalance

Arla, a major dairy cooperative, has announced that it will maintain its conventional milk price at 34.07p per litre for April. However, the price for organic milk will be reduced by 1.76ppl, bringing it down to 56.31ppl in the UK. This adjustment comes as the global milk market stabilizes at high supply levels, despite ongoing uncertainties.

The cooperative noted that milk supplies have 'stabilised on a high level,' with retail prices levelling off and global commodity markets showing signs of positive momentum. Across Europe, supply remains ample, yet markets have reached a balance following a period of volatility. Geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, continue to impact global trade and pricing confidence.

In the UK, although demand for organic milk remains robust, supply has started to outpace demand, leading to downward pressure on prices. A quarterly currency exchange adjustment will provide a slight uplift for UK producers, increasing the on-account price by 0.09ppl.

Elsewhere in the dairy sector, First Milk has announced it will hold its standard manufacturing milk price at 30.75ppl from 1 May, which includes the member premium. This decision reflects a broader trend of stability within the UK dairy market.

The upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether prices can sustain current levels or if additional pressures will emerge as supply and demand continue to rebalance.
