Argentina Eliminates Dairy Operator Registry in Administrative Overhaul

The Argentine government has taken a significant step in its administrative reform efforts by eliminating the registry of dairy operators. This move is part of a broader strategy to modernize and simplify administrative procedures across various sectors.

According to the Secretariat, the decision to abolish the registry, which previously included 468 registered operators, aims to align administrative tools with current legal frameworks and optimize public resource management. Despite the registry's removal, the government clarified that this change would not result in reduced oversight of the dairy industry.

In recent years, the dairy activities under this registry had already been streamlined from 13 categories to just two, reflecting an ongoing trend towards simplification. This latest measure is part of a process that began in 2024, which includes the elimination of the RUCA and the reorganization of grain chain records within the SISA.

The overarching goal of these reforms is to consolidate information into more straightforward systems that better reflect the productive realities of the industries involved. However, representatives from the dairy sector have pointed out the persistent challenge of combating informal practices within the industry.

While the reduction in bureaucratic procedures has been welcomed by many in the dairy sector, there are calls for enhanced sanitary and tax controls to prevent the distribution of products with questionable origin or quality. These concerns are particularly pronounced given the current complex economic climate in Argentina.
