Amcor Introduces Lightweight UniPak Pot for Dairy Sector

Amcor has unveiled an updated version of its 1kg UniPak pot specifically designed for the dairy industry. The new container, including the lid, weighs 31.6 grams, which is lighter compared to its previous iteration. This reduction in weight is projected to potentially lower carbon emissions by up to 9% based on anticipated manufacturing volumes.

The UniPak container is constructed entirely from polypropylene and is described as 'recycle-ready,' assuming the presence of suitable recycling facilities. The lid is compression-moulded for enhanced strength and is designed to remain attached when pressure is applied. Additionally, improvements have been made to the tamper-evidence feature to enhance security for consumers.

The range offers various branding options, including in-mould labelling, and comes in multiple shapes and sizes. Shared lid diameters across different formats are intended to simplify inventory and supply chain logistics. The design also aims to optimize pallet usage and features a collar that aids in protecting the lid and stabilizing the pots during transportation.

Katrina Burrett, Director of Containers and Reusables Product Line at Amcor Global Rigids Packaging Solutions, highlighted the growth in the dairy sector, particularly in larger yoghurt formats. She noted that the new UniPak is designed to help brand owners maximize opportunities while supporting sustainability goals. 'This new pack demonstrates that meaningful lightweighting doesn’t have to come at the expense of strength or performance – and that’s exactly what our customers are asking for,' Burrett stated.

In addition to its developments in the dairy packaging sector, Amcor has announced plans to develop a new airless dispensing system for beauty and personal care products, named the Magic One dispenser, which will offer variable output levels and be available in several sizes and formats.
