Alileche Plans to Double Monthly Distribution in Aguascalientes

Alileche operates in Aguascalientes as a food and nutrition programme serving priority groups in the state capital and municipalities elsewhere in the state. Its proposed expansion would double coverage and bring monthly distribution to 200,000 units. The programme is aimed at maintaining access to nutritionally valuable food for families in low-income urban neighbourhoods and rural communities.

The dairy product contains calcium, iron, zinc and vitamins A and D. The programme describes these nutrients as relevant to early childhood development and to the diets of pregnant women and older people. It also links the fortified product to efforts to address recurring nutritional deficiencies, including childhood anaemia, and lower consumption of animal protein amid higher prices in conventional retail channels.

Alileche uses milk produced within Aguascalientes and processed through the state’s dairy infrastructure. The programme’s expansion therefore includes local dairy farms and processing facilities in its supply chain. According to the source, the institutional purchasing channel gives local producers a formal outlet and reduces exposure to seasonal changes in supply and fluctuations in farm-gate prices.

Reaching the monthly target would require changes to supply routes, refrigerated transport and community distribution points. Programme coordinators said the operational expansion would be accompanied by an update of beneficiary registers and neighbourhood monitoring arrangements.

The stated purpose of the register updates is to direct subsidised products to households with the highest levels of deprivation and food insecurity.
