Under Secretary Alexis M. Taylor is set to lead a significant agribusiness trade mission to New Delhi, India, from April 22 to 25, organized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). With a diverse delegation comprising 47 businesses and organizations, as well as officials from 11 State Departments of Agriculture, the mission underscores the immense export potential India offers for U.S. food and agricultural producers.
Alexis M. Taylor: India presents a burgeoning market for U.S. agribusinesses
"India presents a burgeoning market for U.S. agribusinesses aiming to tap into the growing demand for food products in the world's fifth-largest economy," remarked Under Secretary Taylor. "The rising purchasing power of India's middle-class consumers, coupled with their familiarity and trust in American food products, represents a significant opportunity for U.S. producers. This, alongside the Indian consumers' perception of American food and agricultural products as high-quality, has fueled an impressive 11 percent growth in U.S. agricultural and ag-related exports to India over the past 2 years."

The USDA is leveraging its global presence to unlock new markets for American food and agricultural producers. In recent developments, India has reduced tariff requirements for various U.S. agricultural products, including poultry, vegetables, fruits, pulses, and tree nuts, bolstering the trade relationship between the two nations. The upcoming trade mission aims to build upon these achievements, forging new purchase agreements to benefit American farmers, ranchers, and producers. The USDA remains proactive in expanding agribusiness trade opportunities for American exporters, aligning with its broader objectives of fostering economic growth in local communities.

During the trade mission, participants will partake in targeted business-to-business meetings, site visits, and market briefings to establish new trade connections, strengthen existing partnerships, assess U.S. products' presence in the Indian market, and gain insights into the latest food consumption trends among Indian consumers. Under Secretary Taylor will be joined by esteemed officials from various state departments of agriculture, including California, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, as well as representatives from Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
